Changing up the paint colors in your home can completely transform the feel. Here are the colors you should consider.

Are you bored with your walls? Spring is a great time to consider new interior paint. While you're doing the rounds of spring cleaning, consider painting your walls a fun new color to reflect your changing tastes and exciting new trends. Here are some colors our real estate agents suggest.

  • Red Tones
Red is popular right now, thanks to Pantone's Color of the Year, Viva Magenta. Interior designers are seeing a lot more colorful palettes in our future. Don't feel like you have to go out and paint your whole house (or the town) red, though. If you don't like a lot of bold color, you can use red sparingly, as an accent color, or in understated tones, such as brick.

  • Warm Neutrals
Neutral tones are always a classic that never go out of style, as you'll see if you browse South Bend homes for sale. Neutral tones make a perfect backdrop for any look, allowing you to rotate your decor as seasons or trends change. Neutral doesn't have to be boring or cold, either. Instead of the cool white of the minimalists, opt for a warm beige.

  • Shades of Gray
Gray is another neutral tone that has gotten more interesting recently. Classic gray has been popular for a long time, but more recently, interior design has started trended toward gray with a kick. For instance, you can find gray hues with strong undertones of green, blue, or even brown.

  • Brown
Speaking of brown, brown isn't as boring as you might think. In fact, you might check out this up-and-coming paint color. Brown can come in a variety of hues, from reddish or yellowish to dark browns. Painting your walls brown is bold, but it works well with decor that highlights natural colors and materials. A brown color base is also a good way to incorporate bolder colors in a more understated way. For instance, sienna is a shade of brown that hints at warmer, brighter tones.

  • Mustard Yellow
Even if a bright yellow is too bright for your walls, don't dismiss yellow altogether. Mustard is a more muted shade that takes on an earthy, more neutral feel, while still retaining some of the sunny qualities of yellow. Mustard is a fairly easy color to work with, but it goes best with other warm tones.

  • Navy
Navy is well on its way to becoming another neutral. While dark navy walls may seem like they would be overpowering, you can soften the look with contrasting light or white decor for a sophisticated, modern look. Navy walls are a great way to add interest and personality to a room without getting too bright or bold.

  • Greens
While not quite as neutral as navy, green is still becoming a more neutral tone. Like brown, green works well with natural decor. One of the best things about green is how many varieties of the color you have to work with. For sophistication and a modern feel, opt for a darker tone, much like the effect of navy; for something brighter, more energetic, and fun, go lighter.

Sometimes updating your paint colors is all you need to give your home a fresh new look. If you're painting your home in preparation for selling it, remember that neutral tones sell best, as they allow prospective buyers to imagine their own decor superimposed over yours.
